Par 69 over 5,643 metres, with thirteen par 4s and a 232-metre par 3 as the hardest hole on the card — the short course at Sueno but not the easy one.

Why play here

The Dunes is the other half of Sueno, and it is nothing like the Pines. Andrew Craven built it in a links style, with undulating fairways and natural sand dunes instead of the parkland corridors next door, and he gave it a card you will not see anywhere else in Belek: thirteen par 4s, four par 3s, and a single par 5.

Par is 69 over 5,643 metres. That is 770 metres shorter than the Pines and three strokes lower in par, which means nothing is given back.

The hardest hole on the course is the seventeenth, a par 3 of 232 metres. It is the course that argues with you.

Play the Pines for the pleasure of it and the Dunes to find out what your game is actually made of.

How it plays

Thirteen par 4s is the number to plan around. You will stand on tee after tee with the same decision — driver or something shorter — and the fairways roll, so where the ball stops is not where it lands. Take the line that keeps you on the flat; a perfect strike that finishes on a slope leaves a stance you cannot use.
There is only one par 5 all day, the thirteenth at 533 metres. Everywhere else the scoring has to come from par 4s and from the par 3s, and the par 3s are where the round turns: 122 metres at the fourth, 186 at the seventh, 191 at the twelfth, and 232 at the seventeenth. That last one is stroke index 1 — the hardest hole on the course is a tee shot you cannot reach with a comfortable club.
The greens are large, averaging 700 square metres, and the ground is firm. The ball runs on landing and a putt into the grain is slower than it looks. Land the approach short and let it chase.
Short courses are supposed to be the gentle option. This one is 5,643 metres and it will take more shots off you than the long one next door.

Know before you go

The handicap limit is 36, but the club can reduce it to 28 in peak season. Confirm the limit for your dates when you book, not on the first tee.

This is links in style, not a links course. It sits inland, there are trees nearby and there is no sea wind. What it borrows is the ground — undulating fairways, sandy waste areas, and a ball that runs. If you have played Scotland or Ireland, come with that expectation adjusted.

Par 69 with thirteen par 4s. Bring the club you trust off the tee, not the one that goes furthest.

Nine of the club's bunkers are waste bunkers, where you may ground your club. Ask at the first tee which areas are marked as waste.

The greens average 700 square metres. Three-putting costs more rounds here than the sand does.

The hotel is fifty metres from the course, and a buggy bar runs on the course during play.

Sueno's other eighteen, the Pines, is par 72 over 6,413 metres in a parkland style. The two courses are genuinely different rounds, not two versions of one.

When to play

March to May and late September to November are the two best and the peak season: warm days, firm turf and no heat to work through. June to August is playable, but the middle of the day is hot and early tee times are the only sensible ones.

December to February is also a good season in Belek — mild days, light rain on surfaces that drains fast, quiet fairways and the lowest prices of the year.
