Montgomerie Maxx Royal
Par 72 · 18 Holes · Colin Montgomerie with European Golf Design
Host of the Turkish Airlines Open in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Five par fives, 54 bunkers, seven lakes, and floodlights on the back nine.
Why play here
Montgomerie Maxx Royal is where the European Tour came in three consecutive years. You play the same holes the field played in 2013, 2014 and 2015, over the same sandy ridges, and it changes how you stand over the ball.
If one round in your week is going to feel like an event, this is the one.
How it plays
Know before you go
Holes 10 to 18 are floodlit, so a back nine after dinner is possible. Confirm the hours and whether it is charged separately when you book.
There are four tees: black at 6,492 metres, silver at 5,862, gold at 5,527 and red at 4,922. Unless someone in the group plays off single figures, start from the silver.
The practice ground is the best in Belek — a double-ended range with 25 bays, a putting green of 1,010 square metres, a chipping green and a bunker green.
It is the most expensive green fee in Belek and books out early in high season. If it is on your list, it shapes the week rather than fitting into it — we build the rest of the itinerary around this tee time.
When to play
March to May and late September to November are the two best and the peak season: warm days, firm turf and no heat to work through. June to August is playable, but the middle of the day is hot and early tee times are the only sensible ones.
December to February is also a good season in Belek — mild days, light rain on surfaces that drains fast, quiet fairways and the lowest prices of the year.
