Sir Nick Faldo's 27 holes in three nines — a group staying four nights can play here twice without repeating a hole.

Why play here

Cornelia is 27 holes, not 18, and that is the point. Three Faldo nines — King, Queen and Prince — combine into three different par-72 courses, so a group here twice in a week never plays the same eighteen.

Faldo designed it the way he played: it asks you to think before it asks you to hit.

How it plays

Faldo built the course around angles. Most holes dog-leg, so the fairway you see from the tee is rarely the one to aim at: the line that leaves the right approach is usually the longer one. Seventy-five bunkers sit in those corners, deep enough that getting out in one shot is not guaranteed.

The greens average 600 square metres. Reaching the putting surface is not enough — from the wrong half, three putts are likely. This is a course for thinking players rather than long hitters.

The card is worth reading before you play. Two of the four par fives are under 500 metres from the back, so there are real chances for anyone who finds the fairway. The 11th is not one of them: 562 metres, stroke index 1, and named The Long. The finish is hard too, with the 420-metre 18th rated third-hardest on the course. You do not get a good score here by accident.

The one you’ll remember

The 7th, and Faldo picked it himself — the card calls it Faldo's Choice. A par 4 of 306 metres from the back, 244 from the yellows, stroke index 15: the designer's favourite hole is the fourth-easiest on the card, which is exactly the point.

Know before you go

All 27 holes are open outside the period from 1 June to 25 October. During these months, the club renovates the nine-hole loops in sequence. Eighteen holes remain open at all times, but you cannot choose which combination of 18 is available. As this period falls outside Belek’s main golf season, most weeks are unaffected. Tell us your dates and we will confirm the available 18-hole combination before you book.

Buggies stay permitted through the overseeding period, which is not true everywhere in Belek.

Handicap certificates are required: 28 for men, 36 for women.

Take the yellow tees unless someone in the group plays off single figures. Yellow is 5,538 metres against 6,373 off the black — a different golf course, and a considerably better afternoon for most groups.

It sits inside a large resort, so the eighteen you are offered can depend on hotel tee sheets as much as on preference. If you want a specific combination, book early.

When to play

March to May and late September to November are the two best and the peak season: warm days, firm turf and no heat to work through. June to August is playable, but the middle of the day is hot and early tee times are the only sensible ones.

December to February is also a good season in Belek — mild days, light rain on surfaces that drains fast, quiet fairways and the lowest prices of the year.
